Gleb Shaab, a drift racing driver, is taking part in Russian RDS Drift Series with support of G-Energy premium oils brand. This is the seventh year for Mr. Shaab in this event. Last year he became the RDS Ural Series Championship, and moved on to a more challenging competition – RDS Siberia.
Drift racing is done in pairs along a solid surface rack track with intersecting turns. The speed does not matter; what matters is the drifting technique and the visual impression of the ride. Judges give points for every sector of the race track, and the pilot who earns the most points proceeds to the next leg of the event.
The RDS Siberia leg was held in Krasnoyarsk in early May. There were 16 race drivers from Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Bratsk, Barnaul and Omsk competing on the Red Ring Racing Track.
Training sessions and qualification races were held on the first day. The second day featured paired races from 1/16 of the final to the final race and the race for the third place. Gleb Shaab reached 1/8 of the finals, losing just a few points to his opponent who went on to get the second best result. The first place in the Krasnoyarsk event went to Arkady Tsaregradtsev, representative of the G-Drive drift racing team.
